A funeral service can be held at the funeral home, a church, or another venue. Staff can help with scheduling, setting up the service, arranging music and speakers, and coordinating transportation and printed programs.
Memorial services take place without the body present and may be held days or weeks later. A funeral home can help plan the gathering, create a tribute, coordinate photos and video, and support family preferences.
Cremation options may include a service before or after the cremation and choices for the urn or keepsakes. The funeral home can explain required paperwork, timelines, and how to handle the cremated remains.
For burial, a funeral home can assist with cemetery coordination, opening and closing arrangements, selecting a casket or outer burial container if needed, and preparing the graveside service with clergy or other speakers.
Pre-planning lets you document your wishes ahead of time, reducing stress for loved ones later. Staff can help outline service preferences, gather needed information, and explain how plans may be recorded and updated.
Many families want help writing and sharing an obituary. A funeral home can assist with wording, dates and survivors, service details, and submitting notices to newspapers or online platforms while respecting the family’s privacy.

Listing note: It all began in 1906 when Indiana undertaker Roll Osborn relocated to Shreveport with his wife Kittie Atkinson Osborn. He opened his first residential funeral home in 1910 on the 700 block of Texas Street. For 13 years until he died on January 14, 1923, Osborn served his community well. After his death, his children Percy and Henry Osborn, along with his wife Kittie, carried on the business. This began the second generation of OsbornВ’s rendering funeral service to Shreveport and the third generation of funeral directors bearing the name В“Osborn.В†One hundred years and four generations have passed since Roll Osborn opened his doors to the City of Shreveport. Now in its fifth generation, Osborn Funeral Home continues to uphold its reputation for quality service and professional dedication. As Shreveport grew, so did OsbornВ’s business. By 1925, with a staff of only five, Osborn had outgrown the old funeral home and moved to larger quarters on Marshall Street. Eight years later they relocated to Fairfield Avenue and then in 1955 they moved to their current residence on Southern Avenue.
